All-School Meeting Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK All-School Mtg.

On Friday, January 15, fifth and sixth graders led a moving All School Meeting on Martin Luther King.  Fifth graders recounted the milestones in his life, and sixth graders described events within the Civil Rights Movement and their impact today, notably the election of President Obama.  We heard excerpts from King's "I Have a Dream" speech, and students from the audience shared their dreams for our world.  The presentation ended with our singing "We Shall Overcome".  It was a fitting celebration of a man who truly changed the course of history.  Pictured above from left to right are sixth graders Elvis Parker-Jones, Adam Weyhrauch, and Carly Bonwell.
REMINDER: Author of Afghan Dreams to Speak at RGS

Tony O'Brien, photojournalist and author of the children's book Afghan Dreams: Young Voices of Afghanistan, will be visiting RGS during the last week of January.  Mr. O'Brien reported on the civil war in Afghanistan during the 1980's and returned in 2003 and 2007 to write his book. He will be discussing and showing slides of contemporary Afghan children and culture with our students.
